Crystal Lucas-Perry is a Tony Award®–nominated actress, producer, playwright, composer, and lyricist whose work spans Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theatre, television, and film. Known for her commanding performances in Ain't No Mo' (Passenger 5) and 1776 (John Adams) on Broadway, she is the recipient of an Obie Award, a Lucille Lortel Award, and a Dorian Award, as well as the 2025 Bezalel Award for Creativity in the Arts, presented by T.Lab Global, and has received Audelco and Antonyo Award nominations. She earned her MFA in Graduate Acting from New York University (NYU) and her BFA in Theatre Performance from Western Michigan University. She is currently developing new work as part of National Black Theatre's Hidden Figures Recentered in collaboration with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
She is a licensed psychotherapist (LCAT) who holds an MA in Drama Therapy from NYU and is nationally accredited by the North American Drama Therapy Association (NADTA) as a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT). She serves as Adjunct Faculty at NYU and is a doctoral student at NYU Steinhardt, where her research explores performer wellness, endurance, and creative resilience within educational and professional arts contexts. Her work aims to advance more grounded and responsive approaches to training and practice, centering the well-being, agency, and lived experiences of artists and reimagining how care is integrated within the creative process.
As an actor, educator, and clinician, she is deeply invested in storytelling as a tool for transformation. She supports individuals, particularly artists, in examining, reframing, and reconnecting to their experiences with clarity and intention. Across her practice, she is committed to expanding how performance functions, not only as art, but as a space for inquiry, care, and possibility.
